Surya Ensemble, a premier world music group captivating Atlanta with their live music concerts, has once again mesmerized audiences with their latest creation: the music video for “Cradle of Leaves.”

Released on November 25, 2024, this stunning visual and auditory masterpiece offers a unique blend of cultural fusion, musical storytelling, and the serene beauty of nature.

The inspiration behind “Cradle of Leaves”

“Cradle of Leaves” is a soulful instrumental piece from Surya Ensemble’s album Elements, which explores the natural elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water through music. This captivating song represents Earth and draws inspiration from its grounding and nurturing qualities.

The composition combines the deep, resonant tones of Catherine Evergreen’s viola with the rhythmic pulse of Nima Ghadiri’s daf (Persian drum). This enchanting instrumental track weaves a musical tapestry that celebrates the interconnectedness of all life.

Ankit Patel, known as ShehnaiGuy, who is the composer and producer of this piece, describes “Cradle of Leaves” as an homage to the serenity and beauty of nature. The tranquil melodies and intricate rhythms are designed to transport listeners to a peaceful oasis, where they can reflect and unwind. The sounds soothe the soul and inspire tranquility.

The music video: Bringing Earth to life

The video, filmed at the picturesque Sims Lake Park’s Picnic Ground on the outskirts of Atlanta, captures the essence of the Earth element. Surrounded by golden autumn leaves and bathed in soft natural light, the setting provided a perfect backdrop for the music. Surya would like to give special thanks to atl.shooter, whose stunning visuals beautifully complemented the music.

Catherine Evergreen’s portrayal as a Mother Nature-like character adds a charming dimension to the video. Dressed in a green, fairy-princess-inspired outfit, Catherine embodies the nurturing spirit of Earth amidst the abundant surroundings.

Catherine’s flawless makeup further enhanced her ethereal appearance. Reflecting on her experience, the talented violist expressed her delight with the project. She shared, “This is my favorite look I’ve ever worn. It looked magical.” Catherine also added, “It was a beautiful day in the park. We had a lot of fun making this video, we really enjoyed creating it.”

Surya Ensemble’s ability to unite cultures shines through in “Cradle of Leaves.” The delicate guitar accompaniment by Sean Thrower from Surya, adds a beautiful, Western touch to the Eastern rhythms of the daf. It creates a true fusion of styles.

The group’s seamless collaboration is a testament to our shared passion for world music and storytelling, and our commitment to creating music that inspires and uplifts.
