Behind the Scenes in Show Week: How PULSE Goes From Sound Check to Show Night in Five Days

Show week is the five days when a performance stops being rehearsals and becomes the real thing: sound checks, cue sheets, load-in, and one last quiet day before the lights go up. For us, it ends Friday, October 30, when PULSE by Surya Ensemble plays Stage Door Theatre in Dunwoody at 8:00 PM.
People see the hour on stage. They do not see the five days that make that hour feel effortless. This week we are pulling back the curtain on our own process, partly because we love this part, and partly because this Friday is not just any show night for us. It is our first show at Stage Door Theatre, our new home in Dunwoody, and a first night in a new room asks a little more of everyone.
What is PULSE, exactly?
PULSE is our high-energy world music and dance show: one continuous hour where live music and dance are woven together into a single experience rather than a set of separate pieces. If you are looking for live world music in Atlanta that feels like a journey instead of a traditional concert, this is the show we built for you. There is no intermission and no pause to reset. From the first moment to the last, the energy keeps moving, and so does the room.
Why does show week matter so much this time?
Every show week matters, but this one carries something extra. Stage Door Theatre is a new venue for us, and Friday will be our first performance in the room. That is genuinely exciting. A new stage means new possibilities for how the show looks, sounds, and feels.
It also means nothing is routine yet. We do not yet know this room the way you know your own kitchen. How does the sound carry to the back row? Where does everything live backstage? How does the light fall across the stage, and what does the show look like from the seat in the far corner? Show week is when we find out, and we would not have it any other way.
How does the week actually unfold, day by day?
Here is how five days take PULSE from our studio to the Stage Door stage.
Monday is sound check day. The whole team gathers at our home studio setup in the early afternoon, and we play the show from top to bottom. This is where we balance the sound, lock in the levels, and make sure every part of the music sits exactly where it should.
Tuesday belongs to the cue sheet. We build the master cue sheet that will run the night: every moment of the hour mapped out, lights, sound, entrances, and transitions, all in order. On Friday, nobody has to guess what happens next, because Tuesday already answered it.
Wednesday is load-in, and this week it is the big one. We arrive at Stage Door Theatre late morning, set up in the actual space, and run a full tech check under the real lights. Because the room is new to us, Wednesday is also our day of discovery: learning how the room sounds, finding where everything belongs backstage, watching how the light falls, and checking the sightlines from every corner of the house. By the time we leave, the theatre should feel a little less like a venue and a little more like home.
Thursday is the quiet day, on purpose. One final practice at home, costumes and gear checked and packed, and then rest. Experience has taught us that a calm Thursday makes for a fearless Friday.
Friday is show day. The team arrives for a 6:00 PM call, we run one final sound and light check in the room, the doors open, and at 8:00 PM the week becomes the show. One hour, no intermission, everything we built since Monday poured into a single night.
What should you know before you come on Friday?
Getting in is easy. Entry is by name at the door, so there is nothing to print and nothing to dig through your inbox for. Just give us the name on the order and walk in.
Plan to arrive a little early so you can park at the theatre, find your seat, and settle in without rushing. Because the show runs one continuous hour with no intermission, that early arrival matters more than usual. Seating is Front Row and general admission, and tickets are at suryaensemble.com. Friday is selling fast, so if you have been thinking about it, this is the week to stop thinking. You can use the code SURYA10 when you book.
Questions we hear during show week
When and where is the show? PULSE plays Friday, October 30, 2026, from 8:00 to 9:00 PM at Stage Door Theatre in Dunwoody, Georgia. It is one of our favorite things to do in Dunwoody on a Friday night, and we would love to share it with you.
Do I need a printed ticket? No. Entry is by name at the door. The name on your order is all you need.
Is there an intermission? No. PULSE runs one continuous hour from 8:00 to 9:00 PM, and the momentum is part of the fun.
What time should I get there? Aim to arrive a little early. Parking is at the theatre, and a few unhurried minutes to find your seat makes the night start the way it should.
Can I still get tickets? Yes, while they last. Tickets are at suryaensemble.com, and the show is selling fast.
By Friday night, the cue sheet is second nature, the room feels familiar, and all that is left is the joy of sharing it. If you are joining us, know that a whole week of care is standing behind that hour. And if you miss this one, our next show, ELEMENTS, plays November 20, 2026 at Abernathy Arts Center. We cannot wait to see you out there.
